Christmas!
2009-12-16 @ 11:54:00
Christmas in Poland is a major annual celebration, as it is in most of the western world.
Christmas Eve is a night of magic in Poland. Animals are said to talk human and people are said to see the future. People from Poland believe that if girls grind poppy seed on Christmas Eve they will have a quick marriage. On Dec.24 women are seen cleaning their houses every few hours as evil spirits haunt dirty things.

On Christmas Eve there is a Wigilia feast. It’s also the time for a family reunion in Poland. Families eat an oplatek, a dough wafer .After everyone turns to the Christmas tree. Then people will receive a nicely staked present under the Christmas tree from the host. Not many people keep this tradition though. Children receive their presents on Christmas eve.

Christmas is called “Gwiazdka” in Poland. It is believed if a women is the first to enter the house it is bad luck. And if a man is the first to enter it is good luck.

Holiday Greetings and Best Wishes
For a New Year of Happiness in a World of Peace

Merry Christmas!

and now: The Best Christmas Song's! =)

One Tree Hill
2009-12-16 @ 11:40:42
One Tree Hill is an American teen, young adult television drama created by Mark Schwahn, which premiered on September 23, 2003 on The WB Television Network. After its third season, The WB merged with UPN to form The CW Television Network, and since September 27, 2006 the network is the official broadcaster for the show in the USA. On February 25, 2009, The CW renewed the show for a seventh season. The show is set in fictional town Tree Hill in North Carolina and originally follows the lives of two half-brothers, Lucas Scott (Chad Michael Murray) and Nathan Scott (James Lafferty). Their relationship evolves from heartless enemies to caring brothers, and the basketball drama, as well as the brothers' on-again/off-again romances with female characters, are significant elements within the series.

The first four seasons of the show focus on the characters' high school years. With the beginning of the fifth season, Schwahn decided to skip the timeline four years ahead, showing their lives after college. In the seventh season, he adjusted the timeline one year into the future after the sixth season. The opening credits were originally intertwined with the song "I Don't Want to Be" by Gavin DeGraw playing in the background. The theme was removed from the opening in the fifth season, and the credits have since only consisted of the title written on a black background. The show's interiors are filmed at the EUE/Screen Gems studios in Wilmington, North Carolina and exteriors are filmed in and around Wilmington.

The show has received average ratings, with the second season being the highest rated season, averaging 4.3 million viewers weekly, and has won Teen Choice Awards. Currently, six seasons of One Tree Hill are available on DVD in regions 1, 2 and 4. On May 12, 2009, it was confirmed that Chad Michael Murray and Hilarie Burton would not be returning for the seventh season; their characters had been two of the five main protagonists throughout the show.http://www.proprofs.com/quiz-school/upload/yuiupload/1888303297.jpg
David Copperfield
2009-12-16 @ 11:35:54
David Copperfield (born David Seth Kotkin; September 16, 1956) is an Emmy Award-winning American illusionist described by Forbes in 2006 as the most commercially successful magician in history.[1] Best known for his combination of storytelling and illusion, Copperfield has so far sold 40 million tickets and grossed over $1 billion.

At age 18, he enrolled at Fordham University, and was cast in the lead role of the Chicago-based musical The Magic Man (written by Barbara D'Amato[13] and directed by Holland, MI's John Tammi) three weeks into his freshman year,[14] adopting his new stage name "David Copperfield" from the Charles Dickens book of the same name. At age 19, he was headlining at the Pagoda Hotel in Honolulu, Hawaii.[8]

Copperfield's career in television began in earnest when he was discovered by Joseph Cates, a producer of Broadway shows and television specials.[15] Cates produced a magic special in 1977 on ABC called "The Magic of ABC" hosted by Copperfield,[9] as well as several of the "The Magic of David Copperfield" specials on CBS between 1978 and 1998.[15] There has been a total of 20 Copperfield TV specials between 1977 and 2001.

Copperfield played the character of "Ken the Magician" in the 1980 horror film Terror Train. He also made an uncredited appearance in the 1994 film Prêt-à-Porter. Most of his media appearances have been through television specials and guest spots on television programs. His illusions have included making the Statue of Liberty disappear, flying, levitating over the Grand Canyon, and walking through the Great Wall of China.

In 1996, Copperfield joined forces with Dean Koontz, Joyce Carol Oates, Ray Bradbury and others for David Copperfield’s Tales of the Impossible, an anthology of original fiction set in the world of magic and illusion. A second volume was later published in 1997, called David Copperfield's Beyond Imagination. In addition to the 2 books, David also wrote an essay as part of the "This I Believe" series from NPR and the This I Believe, Inc.[16] Also during 1996, in collaboration with Francis Ford Coppola, David Ives, and Eiko Ishioka,Copperfield's Broadway show "Dreams & Nightmares" broke box office records.[17]

Copperfield notes that his role models were not magicians and that "My idols were Gene Kelly and Fred Astaire and Orson Welles and Walt Disney ... they took their individual art forms and they moved people with them ... I wanted to do the same thing with magic. I wanted to take magic and make it romantic and make it sexy and make it funny and make it goofy ... all the different things that a songwriter gets to express or a filmmaker gets to express ...."[18]

On 7 May 2009, Copperfield was dropped by Michael Jackson from Jackson's residency at the O2 Arena after an alleged row over money. Copperfield wanted $1 million (£666,000) per show.[19] Copperfield denied the reports of a row, saying "don't believe everything you read.".[20] News of Copperfield's collaboration with Jackson first surfaced on April 1st, 2009, and has since been reported by several websites as a possible April Fool's prank.

In August 2009, Copperfield brought his show to Australia.

Protesters march on Copenhagen summit
2009-12-16 @ 11:29:03
Hundreds of protesters are marching towards the UN climate summit venue in Copenhagen as ministers begin their discussions there.

Activists have been angered by the lack of progress on a new climate deal, and some have said they will try to get into the debating chambers.

Talks are deadlocked over emission cuts and financial aid for poorer countries.

As environment ministers join the talks, officials have cut the number of campaigners allowed into the venue.

Security is tight and police have set up security checkpoints on bridges and roads leading to the Bella Centre, where the summit is taking place.

Shortly after the march got under way, police said they had detained about 100 demonstrators after activists said they intended to break through a police cordon.

A BBC correspondent at the Bella Centre said there were about 10 protesters in the central concourse.

Meanwhile, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has suggested that poor countries may have to give up their hope of getting immediate long-term financial commitments from richer countries.

The amount of aid rich nations will pay poorer ones to combat global warming has been one of the main stumbling blocks at the summit.

In an interview with the UK's Financial Times, Mr Ban said he didn't think the exact amount was vital to the current deal.

"If they are not able to agree this time at Copenhagen, then there needs to be some initial arrangement. This is a time when common sense, compromise and partnership should prevail," he said.

About photos of collection Kids Siergieja Bratkov'a
2009-09-26 @ 00:13:06
Born in 1960 in Kharikiv, Bratkow is praised as one of the most significant Russian-Ukrainian photographers, next to Boris Mikhailov from the older generation.

The series Kids turned out to be the most controversial. It's based on portfolios of children whose parents wanted them to be sent to ad agencies. Not being aware of the reasons and the background behind the photos, one could conclude that they are even paedophilic in nature. The parents who brought their model daughters to photographers did all the dressing-up and make-up by themselves. Not aware of the final effect, they relied on adult fashion shows seen in the mass media, unintentionally making their littel girls look like Lolitas.Indeed, all Bratkow basically did was take the photos of the parents' media-controlled ideas and visions of their children. Asked about the centerpiece of the series, the author himself points to a picture of a girl sitting on the edge of a bath tub and smoking a cigarette. The photo was based on how the girl imagined herself as the adult model she wanted to become in order to fulfil her parent's dreams. And the ideal, according to the girl's imagination, was supposed to look like her cigarette-smokking mommy.
